Entry is free, trails run from 30-minute walks to full-day ascents, and the drive from Vlorë takes about 46 minutes.

Introduction to Balcony of Enver Hoxer
Llogara National Park sits in the Ceraunian Mountains of Vlorë County, southwestern Albania, on the Albanian Riviera. It was designated on 21 November 1966 and is managed by the National Agency of Protected Areas under IUCN category II. Sources disagree on its size: the park is variously given as 1,769.20 hectares (17.69 km²) and as 10.1 km² (about 1,010 ha), a discrepancy worth checking before you rely on either figure. The Llogara Pass reaches 1,027 metres and links the Dukat Valley to the north with Himarë to the south; Orikum is the nearest town on the northern side, Dhërmi on the southern. Mount Çika, the highest peak on the Albanian coast at 2,044 metres, stands above the park. The pass carries a documented history: in 48 BC it was reputedly the route Julius Caesar took during the Roman Civil War, landing at Palase before marching his legions over the mountains. A small marker near the summit records the crossing.
What there is to see
The pass sits at 1,027 metres, with the Ionian coast falling away to the west and Mount Çika (2,044 metres) rising to the east. Çika is the highest peak on the Albanian coast and an ultra-prominent summit with 1,563 metres of prominence, built of Triassic limestone in the Ceraunian range, which runs roughly 100 kilometres along the Riviera. Most of the 1966 park is forest, protecting several ecosystems of national importance. Habitats range from Mediterranean sea cliffs with endemic Limonium species to Hellenic beech forests with Abies borisii-regis and high oro-Mediterranean pine. A short viewpoint walk leads to a spot where paragliders launch above the pass, with panoramic coast views. Note the area discrepancy across sources: 1,769.20 hectares in some records, 10.1 km² (about 1,010 ha) in others.
Walking and riding here
Marked trails begin near the summit car parks and restaurants, ranging from easy 30-minute walks to full-day mountain ascents. The Mount Çika route is the longest, given by one source as over 20 kilometres and typically 6–8 hours round trip to the 2,044-metre summit; that distance is single-sourced, so treat it as approximate. The Caesar's Pass trail follows the path Julius Caesar is said to have taken in 48 BC, connecting the Llogara Pass with the village of Dhërmi on the coast. Hiking within the park requires no permit and carries no fee. Open fires, littering and disturbing wildlife are prohibited.
Getting there and moving around
The pass lies on SH8, the main coastal highway linking Vlorë in the north to Himarë, Saranda and the rest of the Riviera in the south. The Llogara Pass road runs about 31 kilometres, following the coast from south of Vlorë down to Dhërmi. From Vlorë the drive is roughly 23 miles and about 46 minutes; from Tirana it is roughly 108 miles and about 2 hours 58 minutes by car. Without a car, Tirana to Llogara via Vlorë takes around 3 hours 18 minutes by bus and costs roughly $95–130. There is no simple direct bus to the park: take a bus to Dhërmi and a taxi, or drive from Vlorë. The nearest airport is Tirana International (TIA); Vlorë is about 87–92 miles away, then SH8 south via Orikum.
Fees, seasons and when to come
There is no entrance fee to Llogara National Park, and hiking within the park needs no special permit. The park is open year-round and free to enter, including for 2026. Trails are at their best from May to October; the paraglider launches and the higher routes suit the summer and early autumn window. Outside that season, snow and weather on the pass at 1,027 metres and on Mount Çika at 2,044 metres change conditions considerably, so plan the Çika ascent for the drier months. The pass was in rough, partly single-lane condition as recently as 2009 but is today fully paved with several lookout points, which makes the drive over reliable in season.
