Day 1 Arrival – Transfer to Lake Skadar National Park

Arrival at the airport Podgorica/Tivat/Dubrovnik. Optional transfer from airport to your accommodation place at Lake Skadar, the biggest lake of the Western Balkans and an important bird sanctuary. Meet with a representative a brief orientation meeting. For dinner and first taste of Montenegrin food we recommend to try specialities from Lake Skadar region.

Day 2: Explore the biggest Lake of the Balkan peninsula by sea kayak 

After breakfast you start your first adventure – sea kayaking. After a short safety introduction and how to handle to sit-upon kayak we start to explore the lake and its wildlife. You pass narrow channels through carpets of lilypads. Romantic villages are nestled on the shoreline. Have a break on a small beach before you head towards the settlement. Continue to Podgorica, Montenegro’s lively capital. You are accommodated in the historical center. Join locals in their daily going out routine. Kayaking: 2-4 hours;

Day 3 Train ride – Hiking the pastures of Biogradska Gora  National Park

Early morning call for a train ride on one of the most spectacular train lines in Europe from Podgorica to Kolasin. Upon arrival are transferred to the starting point of our today’ s walk above the National Park Biogradska Gora. After lunch we walk a ridge with stunning panorama views to the mountain ranges around. We arrive at a typical mountain pasture. Today we experience the simple and tranquil life style of Montenegrin families. Overnight in small 2-bed wooden cabins, shared toilet and showers. Simple but clean.

Day 4: Discover Canyon Tara – Rafting the river Tara

Optional: After a hearty breakfast you follow a steep trail downhill across an ancient forest to the lake Biogradska Gora. There you are picked up and transferred across Tara Canyon, the deepest in Europe (1300m) to the starting point of your rafting trip on river Tara. In the afternoon you head to National Park Durmitor. Optional: If you do not wish to join the rafting tour, you join a journey to visit the summit of Curevac which is arguably the best viewpoint to fully appreciate the beauty and scale of the Tara Canyon.

Day 5: Hiking in Durmitor National Park or optional canyoning

After breakfast you embark on a stunning walk to the summit of Crvena Greda (Walking option A) one of the best viewpoints in Durmitor. With every step the views become evermore impressive. Not only are you rewarded with a rest and time to have your picnic lunch, you are now directly opposite snowy topped peaks, including Bobotov Kuk, the highest 2,523m/8,277ft in the park, and views back down across the park to Zabljak in the distance. Hiking: 15km miles, 700m ascent/descent, 5-6 hrs Walking option B: If you wish to have a relaxed a tour around Snake Lake and Black Lake this is your choice. Easy almost flat walking in beautiful nature. There are some nice little bays along your trail for a swim in the Black Lake. You will definitely refresh you spirits. (8km, 2-3 hrs, +200m/-200m)
Optional: Canyoning the Nevidio Canyon
Canyon Nevidio is in the south of Nationalpark Durmitor. The entrance of the canyon is surrounded by one of the most beautiful in the Durmitor area, two glacial lakes and a waterfall. Return to your overnight place in Zabljak, Durmitor Nationalpark. The Canyoning is grade 2-3 and takes up 6 hrs depending on the fitness and number of participants.

Day 6: From the peaks of National Park Durmitor to the Bay of Kotor, sea kayaking to the church island

A scenic farewell drive on the famous Durmitor ring takes us to the valley of Piva lake, another impressive canyon. Here you can have ride with the longest Zip-line of Montenegro crossing lake Piva – Wooh! Next you have a more quiet stop at the monastery of Piva, which was moved up 300 m due to the construction of a power plant in the 60ties. We stop in Perast, the baroque captain’s town in the Bay of Kotor for a first dip in the Adriatic Sea. Explore Perast and the famous island “Our lady of the Rock during sunset to the Rock by seakayak (optional). In the evening you are transferred (20min) to Kotor.

Day 7: Budva, Sv. Stefan, old royal capital and cycle the epic downhill of the Ladder of Kotor

While this trip will visit the old town of Budva and you have the chance to take a picture of Sveti Stefan, the former fishermen village and nowadays top end hotel – but still one of the iconic landscape features of Montenegro. Before your start cycling downhill, learn more about the turbulent past of the 19th century kingdom of Montenegro in Cetinje, the royal capital of Montenegro back in those times. Follow a serpentine road from 1350 m above the sea right to the walls of Kotor – each bending offers a new stunning view into the bay.

Day 8: Farewell

Following breakfast, your adventure trip in Montenegro concludes. Transfer from your accommodation to the international airport at Podgorica, Tivat or Dubrovnik for return flights home. We recommend an extension to discover southern Montenegro’s coast.
